Pray - Read - Reflect - Apply - Pray

He may be called Whiney but he has written a very helpful book called Essential 100 to use alongside your 100 bible readings.  In fact he came up with the idea in the first place.

He recommends you approach your daily readings like this:  Pray - Read - Reflect - Apply - Pray - (PPRAP?).

Prayer:  Starting with a prayer is starting a conversation with God.  Ask Him to help you understand as you read.  Ask him to reveal anything he wants to as you read.

Read - Sometimes it helps to make notes or use a highlighter.  You may want to read around the passage a bit for some more context.

Reflect - What is the main point of the passage?  Which verses relate to your life right now?

Apply - Does the passage contain an example to follow, a warning to heed or a promise to claim?  Should your thoughts and actions be affected by what you have read?

Prayer - Continue the conversation with God.  Ask him what he thinks about what you have read.  Take a few moments to listen.  Ask him to help you apply what you need to.

My suggestion is that you try it and see what happens.

Paul
