Lent 26/40 a momentous day. Bex Keer

3. April 2011 09:38

Today was a momentous day.  We completed 50 of our essential 100 bible passages.  Passage 45 to 50 introduced us to 5 prophets … Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Jonah and Malachi.  We have journeyed far, many of us have read more of our bibles in the last 3 months than we have in the last year, and we have made it through the Old Testament.

But the achievement of 50 bible readings was not even celebrated today; it was overshadowed by the momentous leading, teaching, preaching and prophesying of our youth as they confidently, competently and comically took the service.

Our youth unpacked for us the role of the prophets in speaking God's truth into a broken world.  And with this introduction to 5 Old Testament prophets, we were introduced to the next generation of prophets in our midst. They picked up the mantle of the faithful, who have books in the bible named after them, and spoke the truth of God into our lives.

- Isaiah: When it feels like the world is going to end, we have a hope for the future.  Danielle.

 - Jeremiah’s: Our relationship with God is like a marriage.  And in marriage we have duties to fulfil.  You wouldn’t forget you were married.  And yet we still manage to forget God.  Becky.

 - Daniel: Following Gods word in every day life makes you stronger and wiser.  People will respect you for being a wiser person.  Noah.

 - Malachi: Turning faith into a religion - if you’re not using worship for what it is, a time to meet with God, what’s the use of it, you might as well not do anything.  Dylan.

 - And of course Jonah:  You kinda had to be there for a special Mothers Day rendition of this Sunday school favourite!  But here’s a little taster

In my distress, I gave my mum a call.
From the depths I called for help
You listened to my issues and problems even though I had been banished (normally it’s my bedroom – this is a bit weird)
I will look once more to your fantastic homecooking (although some say Dad cooks even better)
I will praise you for the way my dirty washing magically appears a few days later in my draws and wardrobe all clean and ironed
You drop me off at my friends
You help me with my homework (with varying results it has to be said)
You provide for me
And you love me.

Just wanted to thank all the youth involved. You were amazing, and I can certainly say God used you to speak to me, and I'm sure many others at the church...well done!
