I started my fast remembering that last year it only lasted a couple of weeks before I succumbed to the need to have a beer. It happened because what we thought would be an amazing job in Kenya, and having both been asked to interview we had to take the decision to turn it down. Crack open the beer, and 1 fast not completed. So would I last the duration this year.
It has been relatively easy. I just have to avoid socialising down the pub after work on a Friday. Going out for a drink with Harris a couple of weeks ago made for some mickey taking... So far so good... And then we got Outstanding on our recent Ofsted. I decided to feast for a single night in this fast rather than totally give it up.
So what about my spiritual journey. Not a massive change but it has raised the issue of fasting in the staff room and at a colleagues farewell dinner "So would Jesus be happy that you are doing this?" My answer....
"I hope so because I still have 3 weeks to go and I could really quite easily crack one open right now!"
