Bear Cubs
The Bear is well equipped for children and there are four 'Bear Cubs' parent and toddler sessions during the week. Monday and Friday mornings are at the The Shaftesbury Centre from 10am until 12am. On Tuesdays from 10am until 12am and Thursday from 1pm until 3pm the sessions are held at the Salvation Army centre, Mary Ann Gardens SE8.
They are open for anybody with children under four years old, so come along and find toys, drinks, cakes, conversations, nursery rhymes and an annual visit from a very convincing Father Christmas.
Bear cubs began in 1999 when a group of young mums opened a room at the Bear, once a week, for themselves and anybody else with young children in an effort to encourage friendship and support within the local community. With the help of volunteers and some funding from Lewisham Council Bear cubs has touched the lives of hundreds, if not thousands, of parents and grandparents within South East London.
Bear cubs has proved to be an effective link between the Bear church, the local community and other churches and organisations in Deptford.
