Sunday Morning – for those of you fed up of the same old faces, be of good cheer for we have a guest speaker, David Pott, who will be whizzing down south from up north. He’ll be sharing with us on the ‘nearness of God’ and of course weaving it in seamlessly with our theme for the year – that’s Micah 6:8 for anyone who’s not made it since January.  Prayer is at 10 am in the foyer. The service starts at 10.30 am.


Evening Service – Sign up to help cook, serve and wash up for this Sunday and future weeks. From 4.30 pm in the kitchen and from 6 pm to serve and wash up. Please email or sign up at

Youth - This week years 10-13 are in the service, and years 7-9 are in the Youth Room with Simon J and Shantha A asking the question, ‘Did Jesus exist?’ Eternal prizes for the right answer…

NXDfff – The Bear will be screening ‘Inside Out’ on Saturday 27 April and ‘Ma vie de Courgette’ on Monday 29 April. Two very different animated features - both will bring a tear to your eye! Speak to Tessa, Kori, Ezra, Vickie or Joe if you want to know more.

Bear Men's Weekend – 28-30 June. Cottage and converted boat shed on the river Thurne in Norfolk. £65 per person (excluding travel).To book contact Daniel Alston at or 07921942903 15 years + (under 18's accompanied by parent).

Women’s Weekend Away – 4-6 October 2019 at the Oast Houses in Sussex. Guest Speaker will be Rosie Amess, curate at St Paul’s Cheltenham. The cost will be around about £165 (tbc) for adults with a discount on youth places. There are only 40 places. the bank is now open for deposits of £50 to secure your place. If you need to spread the cost talk to me (Tracy) or email It’s a strictly first come, first served basis so don’t miss out if you want to join us. Girls are welcome Year 11+ (from Sept). But please note there will not be a separate youth programme and girls must be accompanied by their mother/guardian.


WATCH THIS – another  theological ‘short’ from Paul A and filmmaker John F. It’s all about the Trinity, so maybe watch it three times. Or should that be once?


Outside Space – it’s still there so please be aware that it’s not a safe place for play. There is property belonging to others and some very hazardous obstacles. Children should be supervised by a parent or carer at all times. Any concerns, please speak to Tessa.

CCTV – be aware that the Shaftesbury Christian Centre is now under surveillance from CCTV cameras. This is for the safety and security of all who use the building. If you have any concerns or would like more information please speak to Paul A or email:

Term Time Mid-Week Activities at The Bear:

Bear Cubs – provide everything a wandering and wondering parent/carer and their pre-school child/children need to get through the day.
Women’s Bible Study – 1.30 pm Tuesdays at the Bear. Speak to Margaret P.
English Fridays – ESOL teaching, free childcare and interesting international snacks. See Iain J or Sally B if you would like to help with hosting, children or teaching.

Non-Bear Notices

Going Global -  a retreat weekend with input that explores the biblical basis for global missions and relationships.  For anyone wondering about their place in God’s plan, locally or overseas, or just wanting to know how to support people working abroad. It will give you opportunities to talk with people who have worked and lived cross-culturally for several years. 5-7 April At the idyllic Broadlands Orchard near Hastings. £75 (£10 discount for students and concessions). BELIEVE - Women’s Conference 22 - 23 March 2019 at Skylark Church, 4 Hanbury Road, Chelmsford, CM1 3AE. With key speakers Lucy Peppiatt, Amy Walker, Nicki Sims and Susie Harrington. ‘Together we’ll be embarking on a journey of discovery to understand how the tenets and non-negotiables of our faith can stand firm amidst the ever-changing backdrop of our culture. Our desire is to see every woman equipped and inspired to live her faith out to the full.’
