IN OUR COMMUNITY

Over the next four weeks in the Sunday morning services we will be tracking a different part of the Magnificat alongside the themes of advent.

This Sunday we start with Luke 1:46-48a and the theme is JOY.

And Mary said:
'My soul glorifies the Lord
and my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour,
for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
Luke 1:46-48a

Excerpt from Mary's Voice by Dr Amy Orr-Ewing:

"Mary begins with the words "my soul". Often in church history or art, Mary has been viewed as an empty vessel, a blank slate, whose sole purpose is birthing. But here her personhood is more broadly affirmed. Mary's soul magnified the Lord. She is first and foremost a worshipper. Her identity is not primarily about her ministry role, significant as that is in salvation history. Her identity is not even determined by the biological potential of her body. Mary is a soul - a person."
