**Iain's bring & share birthday lunch : our fearless leader (Part Two) Iain Jones has reached the mighty heights of 60 years circling the sun! All are invited to come celebrate this milestone by demonstrating their cooking skills / baking prowess / ability to choose grab-and-go snacks in the Flower Garden at Greenwich Park (weather permitting) following the morning service. We will wander there for 1:30pm but if there's rain, festivities will kick off in the back hall as soon as humanly possible.
COMING UP
Calling all potential Park Runners : those who are regulars on the circuit, wanting to return, avid or casual walkers, or just breakfast enthusiasts - this is for you! Jem and Hugh are heading to Hilly Fields Park Run on Saturday 9th May for a 5km run/walk/stroll. Meet near the tennis courts 5–10 minutes before the 9am start. Whether you run fast, jog gently, stroll the 5km, or simply come for the company, the best bit is we'll have a well-earned breakfast together afterwards. If more info is needed contact Jem or just rock up!
Children in the morning service : on the 10th and 17th of May there will be reduced access to the back hall at Ascension so children activities will be provided for in the service.
Karaoke social : led by our resident Karaoke Kween, Mel, a karaoke night is booked for Friday 15th May at 8pm. We'll be back at The Old School Yard SE1 4PH and for more details (aka past anecdotes) and how to book, speak to Mel.
Deptford Ragged School Flower Show : Thank you to all who took part in the planting on Earth Day. Enjoy tending to your plants! Please bring them to The Bear to take part in our Flower Show on Saturday June 13th as part of our Community Heritage Festival. We hope to create a fantastic display and remember you may win a prize.
IN OUR COMMUNITY
AGM follow up : Last Sunday we had our AGM. As a part of the day, there was also a call for a commitment to pledge an increase in giving. We hope that people can prayerfully consider if this pledge is for them.
Who do you know? : By the grace of God we have come so far with the building project and raised an incredible amount of money together. But we still need a little more to get us over the line. We are trying a new strategy to get us there and we need your help! If you could fill in this form, we will use this information to hopefully open up some new fundraising avenues. More information is in the link but do get in touch with Bex if you have any further questions.
Request for coloured paper donations : Last Sunday morning we heard from Tim for Earth Day and officially introduced our Environmental Group. In May we will be hearing from them again and have asked for any donations of blue and green paper for an activity Sarah will be hosting. Please bring along on Sundays if you have any.
Lift Train for Lily : If you are available during the day on Wednesdays and you drive a car that isn't too difficult for someone on crutches to get into, please do get in touch with Lily as she is in need of a lift to Lewisham Hospital from Brockley following her accident.
Job Opportunity with The Bear : We're looking for an organised and hospitable individual to help run the new Neighbourhood Connect Hub that we will open with Age UK Lewisham and Southwark and Lewisham Local (funded by Lewisham's main grants programme). The partnership will create community-centred approaches to connect people with non-clinical support and activities that reduce loneliness, support mental health, address social needs and improve overall wellbeing. You will play a key role in ensuring the weekly drop-in service becomes a welcoming, vibrant, inclusive and well-used community resource. You will oversee with project partners the weekly drop-in service, build relationships with local organisations, support promotion across the neighbourhood, and develop strong referral networks. To apply email your C.V. and a cover letter to bex@thebear.tv by 4th May. Interviews 7th and 12th May.

Churches Together in South London Big Gathering : With the far-right and nationalists distorting Jesus' teaching for political ends and waging war, how can we as churches in South London be more visible as we act and witness together to God's love, welcoming the stranger, and following the Prince of Peace? Come hear from church leaders and members and then together, work in small groups to share ways of working and witnessing God's love in South London. The event is on May 20th at 7pm at Trinity House, Chapel Court SE1 1HW. An informal buffet will be served from 6pm onwards.
