COMING UP
Calling all potential Park Runners : those who are regulars on the circuit, wanting to return, avid or casual walkers, or just breakfast enthusiasts - this is for you! Hugh is on holiay but Jem will be heading to Hilly Fields Park Run on Saturday 11th July for a 5km run/walk/stroll. Meet near the tennis courts 5–10 minutes before the 9am start. Whether you run fast, jog gently, stroll the 5km, or simply come for the company, the best bit is we'll have a well-earned breakfast together afterwards. If more info is needed contact Jem or just rock up!
Joint service with Ascension & garden party : we will be co-hosting a service with Ascension on July 19th at 10:30am and have been invited to a garden party following the service in the Vicarage across the road at 12noon. Please come along and bring something to share with our Ascension extended family.
IN OUR COMMUNITY
Back-to-Basics Book Study : Tanya & Larry are starting an online book study of the book Slow Theology: Eight Practises for Resilient Faith in a Turbulent World by A. J. Swoboda and Nijay K Gupta this coming Monday. It's like Sunday School but for big kids, where they hope to dig into the foundational parts of the Christian journey. They will be meeting every second Monday 7-8pm to focus on a chapter from the book. Each chapter is standalone so you can drop in or join later along the journey. If you would like to join, please email info@thebear.tv and you can buy the book here or listen to it for free on Spotify.
Communities for Afghans UPDATE : we previously mentioned The Refugee Council's settlement programme for Afghan refugees but are now considering taking the conversation a step further. To be a part of the programme you need a group of at least six volunteers to commit to settling a family and we're asking: could this be something that The Bear is a part of?The Refugee Council is currently running information sessions on the programme, so we're putting a call out to anyone who thinks they'd consider being a part of this group to get in touch and join the next session on July 22nd, online at 5:30pm. So email info@thebear.tv if you think you might like to get involved and you can check out the Communities for Afghans website here.

Time to Act : The Just Peace Coalition has brought together churches and Christian organisations across the UK to respond to the call from Palestinian Christians to the global Church to respond not with silence or despair, but with courage, compassion, and action. Together, they are inviting individuals, churches, and communities to commit to working and praying for a just peace for all who call the Holy Land home.
